  • Export HDV to WMV wrong Aspect Ratio

Posted by Maria-luisa Meredith on July 3, 2012 at 7:37 am

    Hi

I’m working on an HDV project, the client has requested a .wmv file.

I have Flip4Mac installed but whenever I attempt to export a .wmv from FCP the outputted file is 4:3.

I’ve exported .wmv from FCP before (1024/576 project) so what can be happening here with the HDV format that’s causing the wrong aspect ratio to be exported?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Sequence Settings:

    Frame Size: 1440×1080 / HD (1440×1080)(16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (1440×1080)
    Anamorphic: Unchecked
    Field Dominance: Upper (Odd)
    Compressor: HDV 1080i50

1024×576 is SD PAL anamorphic not HD.

What version of flip4mac do you have?
The Studio Pro HD version($179)is the only version that I know of that will do HD.

FCP recognizes the rectangular pixels of HDV and should be displaying your 1440(anamorphic) footage correctly on your system and/or HD monitor.

My guess is Flip4mac is seeing 1440×1080 as 4×3(which from a pixels only standpoint it is). This is most likely do to not having the HD version of Flip4mac which can process the rectangular pixels of your 1440 footage into a square pixel HD wmv.

Of course, that makes sense! I just assumed if F4M could see the 16:9 format it could export it too.

Thanks for the heads up, I’m downloading the trail version of F4M HD now.

    Thanks again.
