Export from FCP using Sheer video encoder
Posted by Niklas Wikman on December 8, 2009 at 8:16 amI’m trying out the Sheer video encoder.
My original footage and FCP timeline is DVCPRO50, 576i.
I’d be very glad for tips and tricks in how to set up the export, so that my interlaced footage is preserved all through the export. I’m feeding the exported file to noise filtering and then MPEG-2 compression.
VideoPurifier is used for noise filtering and BitVice for MPEG-2 compression.

December 8, 2009 at 8:44 amHi Niklas,
In the “Options” check PAL. The rest as it is.
Set “High Precision Rendering” and Sheer 10bUnc.

December 8, 2009 at 8:49 amRafael,
Thanks for quick response.
I have checked PAL and all other at default. (What about interlaced/progressive?)
But I do not find High precision rendering and I do not have Sheer10bUnc as an option, but Sheer RGB(A)10bf. Should I choose that?

You can check it according with your sequence or just let it in auto.[Niklas Wikman] “I do not have Sheer10bUnc as an option, but Sheer RGB(A)10bf. Should I choose that? “
You have only that option?
I so, you should reinstall.
I have like 8 different option 8/10b-YUVA-RGBA.
Give us a bit of info, what kind of stuff are you working with, what sequence setting, how will you deliver your film..
[Niklas Wikman] “But I do not find High precision rendering”
In Sequence Setting> Render Control: Render all YUV material..”.

December 8, 2009 at 12:38 pmI did download the try-out and installed. I have not tried to add the settings (I don’t know how to…)
I guess I have to try re-install Sheer Video.
My original footage is P2, 16:9 PAL 576i @DVCPRO50.
I do not have “Render all material as YUV” in Render Control for my Sequence setting….
But I found it under “Video Processing”.I’m delivering the film on DVD, after noise filtering and compression to MPEG-2.

December 8, 2009 at 12:56 pmYu don’t really need to install the Easy Setups unless you intend to capture with a video card.
But when you open in QT, FC or wherever the list of available codecs, you should have a few Sheer options.[Niklas Wikman] “I do not have “Render all material as YUV” in Render Control for my Sequence setting….

That one.If you are going to Purifier and BitVice,, you can choose 8/10b Unc YUV, or 8b RGB. These applications works in 8b RGB, no sense to go to 10b RGB.

December 8, 2009 at 1:00 pmI re-installed the Sher video app. After re-start the settings I can choose when using QT Conversion in FCP are:
RGB(A) 10bf
RGB(A) 8bf
YCbCr 8 bw 4:2:2
YCbCr 10bv 4:2:2:4
YCbCr 10bv 4:4:4:4
YCbCr 8bv 4:2:2.4
YCbCr 8bv 4:4:4:4No uncompressed settings….? But I’ll go for the RGB(A) 8bf, then.
Thank you, Rafael!

December 8, 2009 at 4:04 pmHi Niklas,
They don’t mention it in the name, but Sheer codecs are ALL Uncompressed.
Use the YCbCr 10bv 4:2:2:4 (don’t set Millions +). Don’t go to RGB in FC.
BTW, make sure that your movie is Broadcast Safe.
