Export embedded subtitles FCPX

This is all something which in theory FCPX now can do: export with burned-in captions/subtitles, from what I have seen in YouTube tutorials, but I have not been able to do this, they never burn in.

I downloaded several of the solutions of Spherico, thanks to your suggestion. Some didn’t seem to install properly, with several error messages (like XTCC, which is what I need: I have SRT captions in FCPX and want them to become burned-in Titles)… that app kept giving me debug warning messages and I couldn’t use it.

Title Exchange Pro is one I have yet to understand how it works, it might be what I want and more (different conversions to and from SRTs, etc).

XTCE is one I have successfully used though (albeit with the limitation of 50 subtitles at a time), and am considering making the donation to enable full usage, but first I would like to understand if Title Exchange Pro is more complete and thus a better investment. I live in Brazil and 40 euros today is equivalent to 1/6 of minimum wage.

Can you shed any light on the difference between Title Exchange Pro and XTCE?

Yes, this is what is making me crazy: I follow all the steps and see this, just like in your uploaded image. But the resulting file has no burned-in titles. Maybe its because it is a multi-track QT, as Andreas suggested. If this is the case, I should be able to export Picture only (regular QT with burned captions) and reimport it and then re-export out a multi-track with that… I will try this.

Nope… I just tried Sharing as a Master Quicktime, regular QT and not Multitrack, but to no avail: still no burned in captions. Attached is an image showing I have set everything properly (I think).

XTCE, XTCC and TitleExchange are all marked as not Mojave compatible.
They are still left as backup solutions for customers who still use High Sierra and below.

XTCE, XTCC websites lead to XTE (and XTI) as actual versions.
Those run fine without “several error messages” ????

TitleExchange is a format converter app which won’t cover FCP special conversions. So it’s not recommended for your case.
XTI let you import quite a bunch of formats into FCP either as Captions, Titles or as DH Subtitle Generator.

Are you still part of Spherico? Do you know if one donation gets full usage of both XTI and XTE?
And do you know if this donation amount is negotiable, since it is in theory a donation?

Yes.

No, not anymore.
You can still work within the limits and split/join the captions.
There are other apps for less money (or free services) which do allow to convert SRT to titles, all of them with less options but they may work for you.
You’re “fighting” with these kind of problems since nearly 1 year – imagine the savings you would have had since then ????

Thank you very much for creating this great XTE tool! I tried the new XTE title x-title tool lite edition, but I cannot get it working. I followed the instructions in the video and downloaded XTCC/XTE Mojave. There is no floating window where to drag the project with the CC, so I exported XML from FCPX 10.4.6. When opening in FCPX I get an error message.

Do I need to make certain settings in FCPX before exporting the XML?

The video is a bit outdated.

By default the main window is a floating once when the app is activated, it switches back to standard behaviour when a conversion is done.
Maybe you have turned off this behaviour in the preferences:

But regardless of these setting you always can turn on/off this by pressing ‘ctrl-T’

This can happen under certain conditions. Not every caption/title relation can be resolved in any case.
So the “Known Issues” part of the website says:
‘In certain situations subtitles(captions) in FCPX have to be in a “subtitle only” project.’

since 10.4 with every version there are some XML bugs more obvious, some are added and with 10.4.7 a new one is there. The latter one isn’t only a XML one but could happen while working with certain titles.

Dear Andreas,
Thank you very much for taking time and effort to reply to my question. I did everything you write, but when the version in the link you suggest is installed, it gives an error message: ‘X-title Extractor is damaged and can’t be opened’

I tried the rest of your suggestions with the previous version (X-Title Mojave) but then it hangs. What I did was the following:

– Open XTE” (X-Title Mojave)
– Open FCPX
– Make a compound clip of the edit
– Create captions only project: in Index, switch of Roles ‘Titles, Video, Dialogue, Music’
– Drag project to floating window
– Get the spinning rainbow wheel in XTE” (X-Title Mojave)

Exporting this ‘captions only project’ as XML and loading in XTE” (X-Title Mojave) got the same spinning wheel.

Maby it doesn’t work because of the setup?
– System MacOS 10.14.6
– FCPX 10.4.6 (cannot update, to stay compatible with old MacBook Pro)

Andreas, thank you for such a good tool. I have installed the Lite version of XTE (the 6 mb version, I think it’s the latest). I am running Mojave and FCPX 10.4.6.

When I made a test timeline with one Title, it converted fine to .SRT as well as FCPX XML with Captions… But that was a test with one Basic Title.

Now I am unable to use it in a real situation: I am trying to convert dozens of Basic Title clips within a Project (timeline) into either a .SRT or a FCPX Project with a Caption track.

XTE starts converting (I presume) and hangs with a window saying “Converting Titles: Process Role: r3” but the progress bar does not progress, XTE just hangs there…
I would presume it would convert only the first 25 titles, but it seems to be doing not even that, just hanging… Any idea?
