  • Export DNxHD to MXF or Quicktime ref file?

Posted by Ryan Servant on December 19, 2007 at 10:01 pm

I need someones expertise. I am working with a company who wants to transcode files from the avid to multiple formats. The issue is not the transcode, it is the source file. They have told me that they want to export an MXF that is DNxHD as the source file. Is there an advantage to doing that instead of just exporting a DNxHD quicktime ref file? The transcoding soultion may have a problem decoding the MXF but will be able to handle the quicktime ref no problem.

Any suggestions or insight would be more than appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Ryan

There ‘should’ be no difference, but MXF in a QT wrapper may be of help to the encoder.
No matter how the encoding station needs the Avid codecs.

QT ref can have problems if path names fail.
But if you export a self contained QT with the exact same codec there is no transcode, so it will be fast (same time as consolidate) and no quality loss.
    Would be my option.

Do toy / test with RGB / 709 settings, some funky stuff can happen there.
