  • Export compositing project 3D position data that’s generated via Xpresso?

Posted by Demian Krentz on April 1, 2010 at 12:41 am

Using Chris Smith’s CS-Tools EasyCam2 set-up. I’m trying to export the 3D position data from the “ghost” cam, the camera that’s driven by the Xpresso, the one you ultimately render. C4D doesn’t seem to think it’s moving when I try to export the 3D data for use in After Effects. I’ve tried all sorts of parenting and whatnot to try and get an object to actually move with that cam that I can export. Any ideas?

And I also tried baking the camera’s movement. Keyframes generated in C4D, no data exported in the compositing project file. Yes, I did have include 3d data checked. Obviously, I’m still missing something. 🙂

I don’t have the Xpresso setup you’re talking about but I would try giving the ghost cam a global matrix out port, use that to drive the global matrix in port of a null, and put the external compositing tag on the null.

Oh man, I tried that. I read it in your previous post. It didn’t work. Baffling. I can see the keyframes generated by the bake object command. For some reason they don’t export. I’m gonna keep poking around to see what I can find. Thanks for the response, Adam.

I’m working on a project right now using CS_MoCam, which is similar to EasyCam, but even more complex. Instead of a start and end point, it basically has 8 points. So there are essentially 7 “ghost” cams. I’ve made an AEC from my C4D file and in AE I get the camera and all the keyframes for its position.

I know this doesn’t really solve your situation, but I guess I just wanted to mention this so you know it does work for the MoCam at least. I’m pretty sure EasyCam works the same as far as the Xpresso, so I’m not sure why you can’t get that data.

After reviewing the global matrix comment here and a similar comment on greyscale gorilla, I again tried piping the global matrix into a new camera and baking the new camera’s animation. Finally, AE picked up the data. I have a sneaking suspicion that I might have accidentally chosen the “Current Frame” option in the Output Settings. That’s why the camera seemingly only had one keyframe in AE. Anyway, it’s working now and thanks to everyone for the advice.
