export best method
I have an HDV project at 720/25p. What are the optimum export settings in order to use the file later for Blu-ray authoring with Encore CS3? Note that I want the file to be encoded once within Media Composer or with a plug-in such as Sorenson Squeeze or Procoder, not get re-encoded within Encore or another software. I believe a way would be to export as a Quicktime reference and then add it to an encoder, but when I try this, I get a message about “long-GOP projects not being able to be exported as QT reference” and that I should choose QT movie. What I need is the top quality export for both video and audio. Any ideas?

If all else fails you can always export the project uncompressed from the avid and encode it in encore so that the project still only encoded once. Of course if the project has a long runtime this process will take up an extraordinary amount of time and hard drive space but I have done something similar to this and have had good results

You have to transcode your HDV to DNxHD to export a quicktime reference, I believe. Otherwise, export uncompressed and take it into Encore, as suggested.

What’s the way to transcode HDV to DNxHD? Do I have to re-capture my material? In the settings tab, I’ve pre-set all Media Creation tabs to DNxHD 90x? Did I do right?

Create a duplicate of your sequence, then drop that into a new bin…Now right click on the sequence and select transcode….Now make sure that you are in the transcode mode and not consolidate and then go through the options in the window..make sure you do not erase original files etc….

Wow, Mark, thanks for the advice. Tried it and it works great! Generally speaking, is the DNxHD 90 the optimum setting to get the best quality on both capture and export of HD 720p material?

I actually don’t work with 720, but more with 1080i…I usually capture and render to DNXHD145…I used to use 220, but found that I could not see the difference, plus I got to save lots of drive space….so to answer your question, i am not really sure.
