Export AVI and preserve Transparency??
Posted by Rex Summerfield on May 10, 2007 at 3:11 amI built a motion graphic with PPro 1.5 and would like to export as an AVI file so I can use it in other projects. Is there a way to export this in a video format and preserve transparency? Up till now I have had to key the back ground each time I use it.

Scenario A: AVI Export
1. File > Export > Movie
2. Click on “settings”
3. Go to the video tab
4. Can you change Color Depth to “Millions+ of colors”? If so, then that should retain transparency.Scenario B: TARGA export
1. File > Export > Movie
2. Click on “settings”
3. In the general tab, change file type to “Targa”
4. In the video tab, change the color depth to “Millions+ of colors”– Aanarav

May 10, 2007 at 4:47 amYou need to have nothing on V1…the alpha transparency works on V2 and up.
When you export, you need to go to an AVI format that supports an alpha channel. DV has no alpha channel. You’ll need uncompressed. QuickTime can carry an alpha channel on “animation” codec files.
As Aanarav notes: make sure you can select “Millions+ of colors” in the export settings as this is the way you set the file to carry the transparency.
Export a small amount first to test…
