So 70 hours of footage was loaded for me, without timecode or reel numbers. In fact, every clip within a source tape starts at 00.00.00.00. Not helpful. The choices seem to be to 1) recapture everything properly, or 2)string all clips for a tape into a sequence, export as quicktime, then re-import and give that
new file the correct reel name. BUT – if I lost the media or had to recapture for any reason, I am having a hard time believing my “conform” would be frame accurate. Is option #2 really the better way to go? I am old school and want to recapture.
thanks, bb (somewhere in version 6, 1080i, HDV)

I wouldn’t want to re-digitize 70 hours of footage!!! I’d rather put all of the footage on 4 different hard drives and ship them around the world so I had multiple copies as backups!

I would suggest getting the source tapes and at least getting the reel numbers to match. If it’s not too hard to find the first frame, you could also use the modify timecode feature in FCP to put all of the new timecode on. But that’s still quite a bit of work. It’s up to you though.

Yes, it is a pain any way I go. I think making BUs of the drives and putting them in an undisclosed location is the way to go, although I still believe a complete do over is optimal (but not realistic). thanks
