Posted by Ben Mccoy on February 27, 2009 at 8:12 pmI need to export an HD spot for over the air broadcast. Which is better QT or HDV? What settings will give me the best quality?

February 27, 2009 at 8:55 pmDoesn’t matter.
What you want to do is call the station and find out exactly what they want form you. Exactly. Format, codec, pixel dimensions, bit rate, on DVD or CD or tape, audio codec and bit rate. Everything. Exactly.
If they can’t tell you, it probably isn’t going to get broadcast in HD anyway. Hardly any local stations in the country, I think less than 10%, have HD origination. (I made up that number.)bogiesan

February 27, 2009 at 9:43 pmI know that Time Warner Cable only does SD inserts. No HD yet. (At least here in Ohio. Any luck else where?)

its a little low you pessimist you…. (snicker)
in the top 25 markets in the US there is a 85% have HD Capability with affiliates yet only something like 50 % of the markets are broadcasting local news in HD.
Interestingly enough when the transition date changed it was the smaller markets that went ahead with the transitions whereas the “so called “top tier” markets laid back, mainly due to the larger number of analog sets in metro areas.

February 27, 2009 at 11:20 pmThey can’t air HD, so I’ll just keep using the settings that have worked thus far. I did try to contact them first but nobody could answer my questions so I came here. Thank you.

If no one there can answer questions about their signal, you’re asking the wrong people or dealing with amateurs. Be sure you ask for cash for any and all business dealings with these cooks.
