    Hello All,

I did a search but didn’t find the answer for this specific situation. I have a host recorded against a green screen. I want to export a movie with the greenscreen keyed out so I can compress the movie file in Sorenson as an flv with the background cut out. I want to layer this on a site.

I’ve tried animation codecs with no luck in keeping the alpha. Is Avid able to export the alpha information, and if so, what is the best process.

You can’t do it straight out of the box, but there is a hack.
Export your clip without the key applied, (remove the effect on a copy of the sequence)
Then, switch the effect to show alpha.
Export that also (same in/out points)

Then, go into AE, select both and set the bw as track matte, export your comp with alpha.

Thank you. I had thought of doing that, but I had honestly hoped for a better option. I just switched over from FCP, and the idea of AVID not being able to export with an alpha was something I hadn’t even considered. I just assumed a pro application like this would have it included.

Is there any talk of them getting this addressed in the near future? Based on some of the older posts I’ve been reading it seems like this is something a whole lot of people have been requesting for a very long time…
