Export a quicktime in avid
does anyone have a screenshot or can tell me what exact specs to use to export a qt from avid…do you need to check RGB or 601? and are there specifics you need to put in in settings etc? please let me know exactly what to check of to export a qt from avid that’s HD and same as source but looks the best it can just like it looks in avid..also when I try to do same as source it wont let me???

What codec are you using in Media Composer? Were you using AMA? These things will prevent you from using “same as source”. What type of codec do you want to create on the export? QuickTime is just a wrapper, so it can be H.264, JPEG, Animation, ProRes, etc.

All depends what you want to use the quicktime for as well
A quicktime for approval, that a client wants to play on there laptop, after downloading from an ftp site, probably “shouldnt’ be the best quicktime in the world. It’ll most likely be too big to download, and quite possibly stutter on playback, which will cause the client to panic and call you up saying the show is not working properly.
When we get asked to output quicktimes, our first question is “what is it for”
If it is approval, we usually do H264, knowing the blacks might not be exactly the same, but good enough for approval, and playable by most client computers.
If it is to go to another suite as a “master” we would probably do uncompressed, or animation codec. Possibly an Avid compressed format, depending on the length of the program. 30 sec commercials at uncompressed are quite a bit smaller than 45 min broadcast length programs.
