export 4 channels of audio using embedded SDI

I’d like to know this one, too!

The only solution I have had was to create a new sequence. Drag you main sequence into this new one (which has four channels of audio selected for output). Copy your audio and paste it into tracks three and four on you timeline. Change tracks three and four’s output from 1 & 2 to 3 & 4. Then output your sequence as normal.

Maybe there is a simplier way of doing this…

Under Sequence Settings, do you have number of outputs set to 4?

Under “Final Cut Pro::Audio/Video Settings” menu, go to ‘Device Control Presets.’ The one with the check mark next to it is the one you’re currently using. In the Summary to the right, is “Audio Device Control mapping” set to 4? If it’s not, select that preset, then hit the edit button and change it, then click ok.

If all these are right, did you set your outputs in your timeline? Right clicking in the empty source area of the source/destination patch for ecah track will reveal an “Audio Outputs” field that lets you set the destination output track for each audio track in the timeline (you may have to move the little ‘v1’ ‘a1’ ‘a2’ patches, as you can’t get the appropraite right-click menu when they’re in the way.

Under Sequence Settings, set up for 4 channel audio output.

In your timeline, assign the video tracks to which channel you want them to play out on.

I’m pretty sure it’s covered very nicely in the System Settings portion of the manual. Or you can simply type “audio output” in the Help menu within FCP.

While at MacWorld I visited the booth of Lynda.com an online training company. They have an extremely deep list of training topics… everything from FCP to After Effects etc.

One of the free “samples” that anyone can access is a clip from Larry Jordan’s “FCP beyond the basics”. This segment just happens to address exactly the question of how to setup FCP for multiple audiotrack output. There was stuff in this tutorial that I didn’t know about. It’s worth a look.
