export 1080i from a 23.98 timeline?
Hi there,
I have a couple of spots that were shot and edited in 1080, 23.976fps.
I’m working with an asset distribution company that wants files uploaded as 1080, 60i, compressed with H.264.
I’ve been looking, but I haven’t found a way to do this properly directly from Final Cut. By “properly”, I mean putting 3:2 pulldown into the 60i final quicktimes. I found a work-around using After Effects. But I would think you could do this straight from Final Cut.
Can you? Am I missing something?

FCP does a horrible job. That’s I use a Capture card…but I’m outputting to tape. If you can do this with After Effects, I’d do it. That does a better job than pretty much anything in the FCS package. Compressor can do it, but if you know how to with AE, just use that.

Can’t do with Final Cut – can do with Compressor. Follow these instructions (from an old thread posted by Jeremy Garchow):
Export a ref movie from FCP and open that up in Compressor.
Make a new QT setting and in the Encoder tab hit the video settings button.
Choose the codec of your dreams and the set the frame rate to 29.97, then click OK.
Back in the encoder tab, set the audio drop down menu to Pass Through.
Go to the frame controls tab on turn on frame controls.
Resize, Deinterlace, and Rate Conversions should all be set to Fast, and then turn the Output Fields to Upper Field First. Duration should be 100%
Leave the filters tab alone unless you want to tweak something there.
In the Geometry tab set the frame size to 100% of source if your movie is full raster HD, if not choose the closest equivalent of full raster (1920 or 1280).
Hit Submit. Wait. Then you have a 29.97 Upper Field first movie with correct 3:2 pulldown. You can now dance the marimba.

Hi Allen,
I am just dealing with the same issue. I converted the 24p to 60i in compressor, but unfortunately I have several mixed frames on cuts. Field A and field B are from different shots. Did you run into this? Thanks
