    Hey C4D land!

I’ve been messing around trying to create some dynamic debris and am having some difficulty. I’m basically going after creating a “wall” and then having another object crash through it, shattering the wall from the impact point and crumbling. Easy enough with some time spent with the knife tool and Mograph 2.

However, i’m having trouble figuring out how to get the detail I’m going for in the debris. Using the knife tool is just too “clean” for shattered concrete. The attached video link is a great example of what I’m after (not to mention a great piece of work!).

Anyone have some suggestions? Is this a thinking particles job? some other plug-in required?

Thanks for any advice in advance!

Try the X breaker script. You can get it here for free. You need Mograph 2.

There are also a couple of pay plugins that offer more flexibility/capability:

Hey guys, thanks for the responses!

I’ve played with both the destruction and Xplode plugins…cool features in both, however, it’s still just too “clean” on the breaks. I’ve even tried applying deformed textures in the “inner material” option on xplode, but it seems like it only takes into account the color channel.

Any suggestions on getting that more rugged texture on the resulting chunks?

Thanks again for all your help!

Xplode allows you to place any Cinema material on the broken faces, including displacement. I think the sample you posted used multiple particle systems to achieve the effect, although with enough work it’s probably possible to do with one system in Xplode or Remo’s plugin. The sample also benefits from the variety of fx added in. I did this quick and cheesy example with Xplode:

    Hi adam!

Thanks so much for posting that! i must be missing something as I’m not able to get the right texture effect on the inner portions of the pieces. Is there something special that needs to be done other than just dropping the texture into the plugin window??

i did however find a good source for acheiving the multitude of particles. CMIvfx has a great series on thinking particles and there was some really good insight in there.

thanks again for the help and taking time out of your day! that’s definitely along the lines of what i’m after!

    Best,
    Ryan

Nothing special here: just drag the material into the “Inside Mat.” box and of course set up the material that you dragged in there the way you want it to look.
