A friend has given me a video file of an alpha mask of an explosion. See https://www.cinemasundays.com/explode.mpg

How can I use this to make an explosion appear over a still photograph of a building? I guess I need to know: how do I make the white background transparent, and how do I color the animation so it looks like an explosion (red and orange instead of gray and blue)?

I figured out the first part, and decided to post it for anyone wondering:

To make the white background of the video transparent, apply the Image Mask filter (Video Filters -> Matte -> Image Mask).

The explosion looks great except that it’s black. Any tips on making it look like a ball of flame? Worst case scenario, I can de-saturate everything so this scene’s in black and white, but I’d rather not do that.
