    can anyone put into simple terms an explanation of how/why 32 bit floating point comes into effect when outputting in certain codecs like DV, HDV, H 264.

    These codecs are 8 bit native, but under certain circumstances (I think it has to do with adding a filter like 3 way color corrector) they get rendered out in 32 bit.

    Is this true/false

    It doesn’t get rendered to 32 bit, but rather processed in 32 bit.

    So 8 bit codec gets decompressed and any all effects get processed
    in float before getting compressed back to whatever codec your timeline is set to.

    It allows keeping the utmost image fidelity through the effects processing pipeline.
