  • expanding/generating effect over layer borders

    im working on a big composition (just in size terms;) – 9 times 720 pixels in width) and i want to use a time blur effect on a single layer in the middle so that the effect gets generated outside the initial footage layer borders. so to speak let the filter generate extra pixels…without stretching the footage.
    aspect ratio is somewhat like this (x=original footage/->where i want the effect to expand)
    !—————————-!——-!—————————-!
    !-<-------------<-------<--!---x---!->——->———–>—!
    !—————————-!——-!—————————-!
    i know how to do it in PS, but is it possible at all in AE?
    any help would be much appreciated!
    thanks

    Just precomp that layer, or perhaps create a composition that is wide enough to include your desired effect, put the layer in the middle of the comp, nest this comp inside your main comp and apply the effect to the nested comp.

    thank you spritemaster! sometimes the obvious just doesnt seem to be so obvious!
    as a matter of fact – since the blur doesnt really “generate” pixels i went on to paint/clone the extended pixels myself. time consuming – but i hope it will work out.
