  • “Expand audio compoments” in event browser?

Posted by Nedim Bora on January 23, 2013 at 6:29 am

    Hello!
I was wondering if it’s possible to assign roles to different audio channels of a clip in the event browser, just like assigning roles in the timeline via “expand audio components”.
I have two mono audio channels coming from different mics in my footage. Until now, I assigned roles in the timeline. But I would like to batch assign beforehand, since I have miles of footage.

A missing feature for now. You have to open every clip in its own timeline.
Batch assignment in audio inspector would be welcome…

    Thanks for the info Fabien…
Yes that would be a very handy feature.

Highlight all the event clips. In the Inspector make the changes to the audio channels (such as stereo to dual mono) and it will affect all the highlighted clips.

I tried that. But I cannot assign “audio1” and “audio2” roles to the said channels.

As I understood the OP, it’s about batch assigning differents roles to multichannels audio clips (boom, lav…),
    which is impossible right now.

You are right regarding batch assigning roles to component channels.

    I second this.

It’s frustrating that I have to assign all the individual roles for audio component of each clip I put into the timeline.

I puzzled a bit with this and came up with a workaround, that I thought would work – but doesnt:

1: Select all of your clips in the Event that have the same audio configuration, and to which you want to apply the same roles to each audio component.
2: Go to the inspector -> Audio and double click the title of each of the tracks, and rename them. You will be allowed to batch change each audio components name.
3: Put this into the timeline.
Now this is where it all goes bad:
4: Search for any of the words you’ve applied to the audio components via the timeline index. Problem is. when you select a search results, FCPX selects the entire clip, not the actual audio component, defeating the purpose. If I got the select the actual audio component, I would just assign the necessary role(s).
