I’m looking into formatting hard drives as ExFat for cross-platform compatibility. I currently use HFS+ (Mac formatted) drives and use MacDrive to read them on PC.

My one issue is that I worked with an editor who had footage on an ExFAT drive, had DaVinci Resolve freeze his Mac, and the process fried the ability to read the drive. There are plenty of tools to repair Mac (Disk Utility and Disk Warrior) and NTFS drives, but what is the support like for repair tools on Windows and Mac for ExFAT?

Are “fatal” issues with ExFAT reparable with a Linux live CD like G-Parted or other toolsets? Something I can add to my kit, basically.
