Exclude ONE layer below Adjustment Layer?

Ok, I know that but, Nope, I cant pre-compose. They are affecting eachother with parents etc so pre-compositions is no good.

Is there another way to exclude just one layer with a script maybe?

Maybe you could precompose as Jack suggests, but precompose ALL the layers, then copy ALL the layers from the precomp and paste them back into the main comp (your main comp will have a precomp at the top and all the other layers below)

Next, toggle the visibility off for the adjustment layer and all layers you want the adjustment layer to affect in the MAIN comp, and toggle the visibility off for the layers you don’t want the adjustment layer to affect in the PRECOMP.

Though this will double the size of your project, it will mean that all the layers are present in both comps so parenting will not be affected.

But I really like to find a more simple way to exclude just one layer…. (I figure this is one reason why peple use shake instead of ae?)

Maybe this could be a good AE plug in? Think if you just could use “exclude adjustment layer plugin”, just drop it on the layer you want to exclude, than choose the adjustment layer you want to exclude…

Or can this be done by an expression?

Sorry i did not know that you had parenting applied.Yea i see where you are coming from. Its is quite tedious do do all that work just for one layer to free of the adjustment layer.Maybe you should contact adobe about it I remember there was a similar post there a while back regarding the same issue that you are dealing with! Or you could also check Dan Ebbert’s site and see if you can manipulate an already existing expression to suit your needs!

What about a mask?

Using a mask is difficult when using a lot of layers that are both over and under and cuts into the object with transparancy. A possibility is to manually make a mask by making 99 layers black and the one layer white.. but then again, thats not a simple solution rather a workaround…

Dave, can you expand on this a little bit? I’ve had the same problem with Adj layers in the past, but I like the idea of your solution… How do you apply effects with inverse settings?
