I use Avid Media Composer and got the following message when exiting the application.

    Exception: ‘omf.HPDomain_INIT_FAILED’
    An error occurred cleaning
    ‘F:\OMFIMediaFiles’
You may want to delete the database on this disk.

What does this mean? I am in the middle of editing my first documentary. Is there something I need to do?
    Please help.

    yo jim,

‘Don’t panic’ what you need to do is:

    1. Exit the avid programme.
    2. go into your ‘F:\OMFIMediaFiles’ and delete the data base files named ‘msmFMID + msmMMOB’ they both will have icons that look like a computer screen.
    3. open avid again and then it should rebuild itself and the problem files wl either be a quarntine folder or have a ‘+’ at the begining of the file name. best thing to do is to cut the file out rather than delete.

‘If the records nice, then play it twice’.

OK. I’ll give it a try. Will doing this have any effect on my current project? I am not experienced with database management. What exactly are the files I am deleting?
    Thanks,

The ‘msmFMID + msmMMOB’ are the frame work for your drive. If you delete these the avid will rescan the drive, in doing this it will create a new version of these files. While it is rescanning will also find any curupted files, these files are your problem. As I said, problem files will either be a quarntine folder or have a ‘+’ at the begining of the file name. But the best thing to do is to cut the file out rather than delete and paste them into another folder so the avid can’t see them.
You then might have to reload some of your footage back in, and that should sort out your problem.

I’m off home now, but i’m sure someone will back me up with what i have said.

    Good luck.
