  • Exact location of anchor point?

Posted by Jason Brown on July 10, 2006 at 1:56 pm

    Hey Everyone,

    I need to prove a co-worker wrong!

Is there a way to locate an anchor point at the *exact* middle of the bottom pixel of an image (or an exact corner)…without having to look at the info palette and do the math?

I ask this because it seems that I saw a video tutorial where an asset was imported and the anchor point was located at the exact bottom left corner, because he did a rotation right off the bat.

    Thank you in advance,

    -Jason Brown

Select the layer and hit the A key. This will reveal the anchor point position.

For example, for a 640×480 layer, the corners are:
    (0,0)
    (640,0)
    (0,480)
    (640,480)

If you open up the footage in a layer-viewer (double click it in the timeline),
you can drag around the anchorPoint with the move tool (if it’s visible).

Now holding down the Command+Shift keys (Ctrl+shift on PC i guess) while doing this,
the anchorPoint will snap to the center of the footage, to a corner or anywhere along the edge.

This behaviour is not available in the Comp viewer using the Pan-behind tool.

you can also let ae do the math by typing *2 after the value for either the x or y to snap to the rifht or bottm edge or 0 for the top or left

OR, if you’re really clever, you can run this little script that can move it to any of the 4 corners, the center edge of either of the 4 sides, or the center. Exactly, so there are no errors, especially when joining layers in 3D space etc.
