    Hello,

I am looking into purchasing 3x EX3’s and a Panasonic AV-HS410 Switcher for live events.

In order to sync the cameras easily in post I am assuming I will need to run timecode from a master clock (I’m looking into the ESE LX-362U) to each camera. Do I need to use HD-SDI bnc cable for this or will standard analog BNC (I use Canare LV-61S) work as well? Runs will be 200-250ft.

Also, I need to Genlock the Cameras and switchers. Do I need analog BNC out of my signal generator or will I need HD-SDI? Not sure whether the genlock input on the EX3 is analog or digital.

    Thanks.

Sorry not really understanding what you’re saying….I’m guessing you’re saying I need HD-SDI cable (digital video coax) for both the genlock input and Timecode input on the EX3, and that standard analog coax won’t work. Not understanding what you mean by “Genlock – DA – TC – (Loop EX3 to EX3, EX3)”.

For the HD-SDI signal from the camera, use solid core 75Ohm coax cable.

Timecode is an audio signal. For long timecode runs, use XLR balanced audio cables.

For genlock you can use any 75Ohm coax cable.

I DO NOT reccomend looping timecode or genlock. 1 bad cable or camera can kill your whole shoot!

    Seth,

Does the EX3 accept SD analog for the genlock input or do I need an HD-SDI signal to genlock, or what? I’ll be using a blackburst generator and I need to know what kind to get based on what I need to genlock the cameras. Thanks.

The EX3 will work with SD or HD Ref. However, SD ref won’t work while shooting in 24fps. For that, you’ll need a tri-level sync generator.

Do you have any recommendations on tri-level sync generators?

Never mind, for $280, who needs to rent. See the link below.

Buying, but I would like for it to be rackmountable, and give me a few other options like colorbars, etc.
