We have a small production truck with Sony DXC D50s and a Sony DFS700 switcher connected through SDI. We purchased an EX3 with the plans of going the tricaster route eventually but want to use the EX3 in SD in the meantime. The EX3 plugs in SDI just fine but the picture is comes in looking “softer” then the D50s.

Am I missing a setting somewhere or is that just a difference in the cameras? A different picture profile? The EX3 looks good at the camera but not so hot in the truck.

Unfortunately, the SD output is pretty bad. The HD output is good though.

The SDI output from the Sony EX3 is 1080i. So keep in mind the video workflow is interlaced. If it’s looking soft then examine the sequence setting in your NLE to make sure it is UFF interlace and NOT progressive.
