If one were fanatical ApplePro Res would be great.
Generally a really good H.264 encode played from a file player would work. I haven’t played with any of the common file players (Western Digital has a good one) but if they can be set to loop that would be good. Of course Quicktime player can loop as well if you feed the monitor from a computer. Make sure to deinterlace the file first.

It’s probably a lot less of a headache than having to burn a Blu-ray disk or tying up a computer for playback. I think theses devices are way Apple’s Jobs says Blu-ray is dead. These devices aren’t in wide use yet though. Ironically Apple doesn’t have a competing device. Current AppleTV has no file storage and is only 720p. On the other hand I think he believes people use streaming rentals where 1080 would be prohibitively large. The problem with that is one doesn’t always have fast broadband available and sometimes one wants to playback one’s nice 1080p master for clients.

..and suddenly this project seems significantly easier- these WD boxes are just what I need.

And one last thing. To get the same picture from the player onto multiple TV screens, I would need a need an HDMI distribution amp splitter, right? Any that you would recommend?
