EX1 v HVX200 issue
So I own an HVX 200 and just bought a Sony EX1..
Two questions:
1) Does the EX1 have a focus assist feature where you can press a button and “zoom” in on a small section of the screen to check focus – like the HVX’s focus assist button? I know it does peaking, but I prefer the other way.
2) My sony footage always looks much sharper than the HVX… in a bad way… Not sure how to explain it, but I like how soft (yet in-focus) my HVX footage looks and the sony image just doesnt look as good as the quality of the HVX… using both cameras on their default factory settings… I havent cracked open the hood and played with any of the settings.

To be blunt honest it sound like you haven’t even skimmed the manual, maybe not even the marketing brochure.
Yes there is a focus assist button. It’s called Expanded Focus and it’s on the grip. I guess you haven’t even played with the buttons on the camera (some people do this even before reading the manual). BTW the Sony EX LCD blows the doors of the HVX LCD.
Picture Profiles. Detail settings and there’s even a separate Skin Tone Detail if one has specific issues with that. The Sony EX can resolve to 1000 lines so the default edge detail can look over sharp to many people. It’s default really isn’t “too heavy” on edge enhancement but turning it down certainly helps.
Please do read the manual and hit all the buttons on the camera first. By the end of your first day you’ll have both a basic understanding and some questions that aren’t already answered in Sony’s manual.
Curious if you didn’t know the above already what caused you to buy the camera (which is an excellent choice of course) since the questions you ask almost seem like pre-sales questions?
