I’ve completed 1920 x 1080i clips from my EX1 and created self-contained QT files from the FCP 6.0.5 timeline. Next stop: another vendor who uses PCs.

I copied these files over to a Dell laptop Windows EX Professional just to check compatibility. The QT message said something like, “download the latest QT version,” which I did (QT 7.6). After this, all I get is the sound with a black screen when playing the clips on the PC.

Is there something in the EX1 footage converted to QT .mov files that would cause this? I called Apple and they couldn’t answer why, just suggested checking the Apple support forums. I did this and check QT for both Macs and PCs; nothing like this is described.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

    Solution 1

Buy CalibratedSoftware EX .MOV decoder for Windows
    https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp

    Solution 2

Export back to .MP4 in FCP. Then they can use as MP4 or rewrap to MXF in Sony ClipBrowser

    Hi All,

On the net you can find a bunch of post from people trying to play Sony EX1 format on a PC via quicktime.
A client of me delivered EX1 files with .mov extension (mp4) and i was unable to watch them but found a solution.
Because most of the decoders are heavily priced i continued my search for an alternative.

Eventually i did convert the files with a piece of software from https://www.mik-digital.de/programme.html

the program is called mp4tompg and it’s FREE!

After that, the movies played wel in After effects CS3.

Maybe someone can say something about quality loss perhaps?

    Sure hope this helps.

    regards,

    Maarten

See my above post from 2009. There is no quality lose using Calibrated Software plugin. It is the best solution out there. Any program the recompresses will result in quality loss. Nothing can replace having the proper codec.

Convergent-Design has a free app that re-wraps XDCAM QT (.mov) files as MFXs.
They should work on the last CS.3 versions:
