EX1 manual & auto iris problem
My camera’s firmware was upgraded and since receiving it back, the manual iris acts like an auto iris: you can set the stop manually, but if you pan over a bright spot or light source, it stops down automatically. There is nothing I can do to change that. At the bottom-right of the Display Info, is says ‘SHT:Auto’, which suggests to me that the shutter is in ‘auto’ mode and that this could conceivably be the reason why it (appears to) shuts down the iris automatically.
Could this be the reason, and how can I change the ‘shutter auto’ setting?
My shutter is ‘On’ and set at 1/50 and I have also tried it at 180

1080/25p

Go to the “Others” menu and choose the “Reset All” option. A poster back in the beginning of December had this same Auto Shutter issue and resetting the camera solved it for him. It may even solve your Auto Iris problem. If it doesn’t there may be a problem with your most recent firmware upgrade. There have been reports of EX users having to get their upgrade redone because of poor results from the first firmware installation.

Thx Don. I actually found the solution afterwards and it’s pretty newbie 🙁 Just had to use the joystick on top of the camera and toggle to the SHT:aut display on the screen and change it to shutter speed or shutter angle. That did it. My problem was that I’d never used the joystick to access the menu and accessing that setting didn’t work with the menu button and roller thingy. Thx again for your prompt assistance.

On the Joystick: do any of you have a problem when trying to move the ‘joystick’ up – “twelve O’clock” position? Mine has become very hard to register ‘up’, but is OK for left, bottom, and right. -thanks for any input.

Good to hear that you found a solution to your auto shutter problem and are now able to control the iris manually. Probably the most important control to have manual access to is the iris.

I have no issues with the joystick on my EX1. It’s equally as good at moving upwards as it is for left, right and down. Sorry to hear about your trouble with the control. Murphy’s Law certainly seems to be alive and well concerning the EX cameras. I never seem to hear about switches and knobs being dodgy on more expensive cameras. If it wasn’t for the glorious picture from these EX cameras………
