Have I done something stupid or is there a problem with the EX1 remote commander?

I have two RM-F300 commander units one supplied with my PDW350 the other with the EX1 and I can get neither to work with the EX.

I’ve been through the manual and activated the IR receiver – you have to do this every time the EX is powered down, but get no response to the remote. I’ve checked battery voltage.

Is there something I’m missing here or do these things just not work reliably?

Because of the work I do I’m sure I tested it when I took delivery.

I’d be grateful to here of your experiences.

BTW I am in front of the camera pointing the remote at the receiver!

My remote worked the first day I tried it (and I tested it in front of the camera) and hasn’t worked since. I’ve heard others have this problem too. I think there’s either an issue with the remote or EX IR sensor.

According to the manual (We just got our EX1, I’ve been too busy to start playing with it) the menu item for IR REMOTE automatically sets itself to OFF every time the camcorder is powered down. I have no idea why.

My guess is you’ll just have to enable it in the menu.

Sorry…I missed that you tried that in the original post. There I go, rushing to be helpful, but not reading too closely. 🙁

That’s okay, Clint 🙂 That fact is now permanently burned into everyone’s LTM (long term memory).

This is really bad news, I was relying of being able to activate/deactivate record remotely if nothing else.

The camera’s just been in for a 1.1 firmware upgrade, I wonder if that’s the issue.

Can I ask any of you who have an EX1 (and the time) to try the commander for me. I’m tempted for a warrenty repair.

Alan, Try setting the “Trigger Mode” to ‘BOTH’ in the OTHERS menu. I have the latest firmware update, and my remote triggers record, zooms, etc. (from in front…) -s

    Mine is intermittent too.
Seems to work well about 5-6 feet from camera.
I have programmed one of the assign buttons to quickly turn on remote.

    Thanks Stephen.

Actually I’ve got to the bottom of it now. Both remotes had flat batteries, but the one that came with the EX1 recently, had 2.8v registering when I tested, so I assumed all was well.

It worked when I replaced with a fresh battery.

Seems I’ll be removing the batteries from the EX AND the commander now on a regular basis!
