As SD is interlaced, I would go with 50i, particularly as you don’t want the stutters of 25p. My advice is to finish to HDCam and make a down converted SD digi beta using a Terranex or similar specialist down converter.

Harware is the way to go. I haven’t seen the Kona but I have compared FCP software downconverts. They are long and yield a soft result. I have found the Sony HDCams do an excellent hardware down convert.

[Jeremy Garchow] “At the very very least, use Compressor as it will handle all the fields correctly and FCP won’t.”
    Hi Jeremy,
    Explain me this,please.
I’m for the software solution because I don’t believe in digital-hardaware solutions.

I find that FCP can handle interlacing differently than I’d like it to.

When you use Compressor, you have complete control on telling it what field order your input footage is and what field order you want your output to be.

You can also do this in FCP to a certain extent, but I find that Compressor is more predictable, especially in NTSC where adding 3:2 pulldown might be a must. FCP can’t come close.

In Johnny White’s case, he needs to be from p to i in software. Compressor will properly interlace the output from the progressive material in a very predictable and correct way. You also have all the different frame control options (such as best quality scaling) that I find to work very well in Compressor. FCP is ok, but Compressor is really good at it. Of course for you, Rafael, you have the ioHD and a nice down convert is a click away.
