Having tried to bring EX1 footage into FCP the wrong way(one of them anyway), I am left with an MP4 file that I can see using VLC but I can’t seem to bring into the job using the usual Log and Transfer or Import functions. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks

You haven’t provided any information as to what you’ve done.
It doesn’t sound like you’ve read through basic documentation.

Use ClipBrowser to copy BPAV to Hard drive
Add parent folders to XDCAM Transfer Tool and rewrap to MOV

Sony’s XDCAM HD & EX workflow with FCP

This might help too. This is AFTER using ClipBrowser. It shows how to use XDCAM Transfer Tool.

Problem is that the files are now all over the place on my hard drive and I am trying to figure out if there is any way to work around this. This is the final file of a fairly large job( all the others are ok). The simple question I guess is this. If one is left with just an MP4 file how can I get it into FCP?

    Appreciate your attention.

Kind of reminds me of the person who drives 10 years without seat belts and boasts of never getting into an accident until just now . . . Last words as they carry him off in the stretcher.

ClipBrowser 2.5 can create a new BPAV folder with an orphaned MP4. Use its File/import feature. The original metadata is lost though but you’ll have a clip you can rewrap to MOV to FCP.

I am properly humbled. Seatbelts from now on. Thanks a bunch. DD

The current version of XDCAM Transfer works directly with orphaned MP4 files too – try just dragging on a folder full of MP4 files and they all show up and you can import them just fine.
