    Hi,

    OK, I posted some similar before but since i’ve now upgraded to FCPX, I just need to consolidate my knowledge and workflow.

    Got a shoot coming up next week and have been experimenting with different formats.

    Camera’s are:
    EX1
    Z5
    550D

    The Z5 will be shooting 1080i as the progressive mode cannot be trusted. No idea why but it seems others are experiencing it too: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/162/870083

    So going to shoot:

    • 1080p on EX1
    • 1080p on the 550D
    • 1080i on the Z5

    Is there a quicker way than keep rendering the Z5 footage in the timeline? Maybe convert the whole lot to prores before maybe? How do things differ with FCPX? I understand it handles different formats better together?

    I used to transcode everything to prores, but now I just mix it in the timeline, and keep editing in real time, rendering it all out when I’m finished.

    If your processor can handle this, it’s the best way to go.

    As far as the stuttering, I’m guessing you are shooting in pal at 25 frames per second? I use the Z7 and I shoot at 24p all the time and I don’t have any trouble. Seems like it should work. Are you shooting and finishing in 25 fps?

    I’d be curious to see how well FCPX handles a multicam clip from the three cameras. It’s supposed to be able to mix formats.

    I just a shoot with different cams shooting a mix of i and p.
    Just create your 1080p timeline ad throw the i footage in.
    FCPX will do its magic. You don´t need to de-interlace, anyway I didn´t have to and my show was already through broadcast QC.
    If you do see any problems or if some cams shoot different frame rates then try the “Conform” tool in FCPX first.
    There are de-interlace (free) filters out as a last resort, I don´t think there is one included in FCPX.
