EX footage in Windows

I have been using my EX-3 with a Macbook Pro for three years but wanted to switch over to Adobe PP with Murcury playback. However, it seems that I can’t play back my EX footage on a Windows computer because all the footage is on Mac formatted drives. The only way around this seems to be;

1. Install Macdrive so I can access the drives
2. Install Calibrated Software to read and write to the drives

All this seems to be a little much and I don’t know of anyone who has done it. Does this work?

I have looked at Sony’s new Browser but it only lets you copy the BPAV folder which means I still can’t review the footage. Why can’t Sony make XDCAM Transfer for Windows? It would make life so much easier. I am always reviewing footage in the Finder on my MacBook but how do I do that on a Windows machine using Mac formatted drives?

And since Apple does not have any NVIDIA cards certified for Murcury it seems there is no option. Am I missing something?

I’ve heard that MacDrive for Windows is not nearly as reliable as NTFS for Mac So I would go the other way. Install NTFS for Mac on the Mac laptop ($20.00) but format all the external drives you want for your Windows machine in Windows NTFS. Connect the NTFS drive to the Mac laptop and transfer the EX files from laptop to the hard drive.

I use an external USB drive that I format on my Mac. Format the drive using the exfat format. The 4 gig limit is gone and both the Mac and PC can read and write to a drive with the exfat file system. You need to be running window 7. Good Luck

Thanks for the advice. Do I still need Calibrated Software to view the files? Or is there a better choice?

Which kind of files do you have?
QT (.mov), MXF, BPAV folders?

Bpav on windows but .mov on my mac. Am trying too get away from the mac and go with windows

No problems with the BPAV; you can use them on both platforms.

You can re-wrap the QT files as MXF very easily with this “File Converter”:

Sony ClipBrowser 2.6 wrap MXF for NLE.
