    Hi Folks,

I’ve searched but couldn’t see any threads relating to this. I know that technically it’s possible to mix XDCam EX and AVC Intra on the same timeline – in fact any format, but what’s possible and how well it works are often two different things.

SO, has anyone actually done this and if so how well did it work?

I’d likely be doing this ‘in the field’ on a 2.8Ghz MBP with 4 Gigs of RAM, FW800 media drive (LaCie rugged probably) and FCP 7.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
    In theory should work.
I would make a Prores sequence and drop the XDCAM and AVCI footage on it.
I haven’t worked with AVCI footage, but at least sure that wit the XDCAM, there is no problem.

Make your life easy and pleasant by transcoding both to a common codec like ProRes.

I agree with that in principle but the project requires fast turnaround so a transcode isn’t practical.

…and I know it would be better to just have one codec to be working with but I’m trying to figure out a plan should there be two.

    Cheers

ProRes. AVC-I plays very well with it, and XDCam does much better in a ProRes timeline.
