EX-3 Sunrise Timelapse Suggestions
I am shooting a timelapse of the sunrise at a beach next weekend and really only have one chance to get it. I am using the EX-3. My first question is: would you recommend a circular polarizer? Would it even do anything with the early morning sun?
I think I’m going to shoot at a frame at 5 second intervals. I also will likely use the “slow shutter” or frame accumulation mode. Does anyone have experience with this, or let me know which setting on the slow-shutter would look best for sunrise…
As far as exposure, I’ve heard a few different ways to do it.
1. Fully Manual, adjusting the iris for when the sun is completely up in the sky.
2. Auto-iris the entire time.
3. Auto-iris with a stop or two down in the exposure-compensation setting, then switching the auto iris off just before the sun peaks over the horizon. This would avoid any funky iris reaction to the overwhelming beams of the sun. Has anyone tried this?
I’m leaning towards option 2 because I want to see the sky before the sunrise (which leaves option 1 out). And I don’t know if I want to risk with option 3, it seems too risky and likely that it wouldn’t be stopped down to avoid blowing everything out.
Also can anyone recommend any picture profile settings?
Thanks for your help.
