    Hello:
My employer’s Sony PMW-EX1R has three pin-prick-sized pitted areas on the front lens element that are showing up as black blobs on the monitor. Before I send it in to Sony, is there another repair shop you trust with this vital repair that you would recommend?
How much will this likely cost for both a repair or total lens replacement?
    Sincerely,

I had an issue with an EX3 lens and it cost about $900. Its going to cost you time away from your camera and hopefully not as much as an entire lens replacement like I had.

    Good Luck

Is this a good reason to always have in place a filter of some kind, say a UV, in order to prevent just such an occurrence? I always do and have done for forty years. Some people have told me that I’m risking degrading my picture in doing this but I always get good comments on my picture quality so it doesn’t seem to have suffered.
