EX-1 discontinued?

Ah well. They were worn out anyway. Would have been nice if my two year lease was done. When it is, we’ll have to pay a buy out to the leasing company. Cameras used to be good for 5 years before they were abandoned by the mother ship. Not no mo!

October 13, 2009 at 1:35 pmTimes have changed. Think of how long the PD-150 through PD-170 lasted as a line and that still may have been shorter than the old BetaSP cameras.
Keep in mind that a new business model may simply mean shorter lifespan in lower end cameras. It’s easier to replace a $6000 camera in two years than a $30,000 camera. It may also be with faster turnovers, the frequent replacement may make up for lower price. If $6K camera sells twice as much and is updated 3 times in the same span as the $30K camera, you have (2x$6k)3=$36K . . . which is more than $30K.
This may well be the reason the EX came into existence despite the risk that it would eat into the sales of the F series cameras.
