Anyone know who does the show, how they shoot and post? Seems to have a film look. Just wondering what gear is used.

Probably Varicam with the Film Gamma settings, same we use on Good Eats. Shooting with this setup in 24p mode gives a very dramatic film look.

Oh that, watching it right now. I thought it was just Everyday Italian. Mario is a better cook. Does look really good though, I think Walter has it right.

    Have a wonderful day.

    Walter,

In general terms, what kind of CC are you doing with the film gamma settings? Are you able do a “broad brush” setting and apply it to each clip, or is it a clip by clip thing?

    Thanks,
    John

I use a combination of the 3-Way Color Corrector, Levels and Broadcast Safe to do all the color correcting. I’ve built up about 40 presets that I now use depending on what the scene is and where they are shooting. From those presets I can tweak. But I always do the CC on a clip by clip thing because that’s the only really correct way to color correct. Often times I have to keyframe the filters because of all the shiny objects that come in and out of a scene.

The only “broad brush” I do are the Levels and Broadcast Safe filters.

Looks like they shoot with a pretty wide lens as well, not to mention the closeups, that are really close up. It also feels as if they are shooting single camera. The lighting helps as well. I’ve wonder about how they achieved the look as well. I like it, but in a weird way, on a visceral level, I kind of don’t – it doesn’t seem quite right on a television screen.
