Not sure what I’m doing wrong here… if I import a landscape oriented still image, say at 3000×2400 pixels to use in a Ken Burns zoom/pan way, I am able to resize the image with the event crop feature as I would expect, though only after selecting “Match Output Aspect” from the right-click menu. When I import a portrait oriented image at say 2400×3000 pixels, it snaps and resizes to fit the frame in a vertical direction, and then in the event crop control box, I am only able to move the image within that area that it filled when first imported – I can not get it to stretch out to fill the entire video frame or move left or right to the sides. What gives?

Hold down the Ctrl key to override the aspect lock when you drag the frame bigger or unpress the Lock Aspect Ratio button on the left (third icon from bottom)

No good. I think this is somewhat related to the other thread you replied to… the aspect lock just keeps any cropping in proportionate ratio WITHIN the area on the screen where the still image first appeared when imported. WITHIN that “frame”, I am able to shrink or expand the image, but I am not able to move that frame area or enlarge it to cover the entire video area (1280×720), or at least not with the event crop. With the landscape oriented still image, I am able to right click and choose “match output aspect” and then the still image expands to fill the entire video frame and I am then further able to move it WITHIN the entire frame or zoom it in or out. I can’t seem to do that with a portrait still image. I don’t understand what the difference would be.

Yea, I see what you mean with vertical oriented media. You can only go so far. In order to keep the true resolution in Pan/Crop you may have to use Track Motion to position.

Im having the same problem too..im new to using Vegas pro 8, i moved from premiere because vegas certainly is faster, but there are some things, such as this that’s a little bit harder to do..

The only work around i can think of is opening a blank/transparent landscape oriented file in photoshop then placing the vertical image on it and finally saving the file as png with the transparency..I dont really like to use track motion because it applies the 3d effect on the entire track and i dont want to move the stills on separate tracks because theres just too many of it..
