    Hi Folks,

Delighted to find this forum, so hi…..

I am an enthusiastic amateur that could go slightly pro on web video…

I am evaluating different NLE packages and SV looks very cost effective and offers a good upgrade from the simple SV Movie Sudio Platinum to SV PRO 9 when I get there…..

    My PCs spec is:

    Quad Core 2.4GHz Q6600
    RAM: 8GB
    Vista SP2 64Bit
    Graphics… built in Intel G45/G43

I have a stock animation with the following properties:
    1920*1080×32, 30fps, Alpha=none, Field Order=none(progressive scan), JPEG 2000.

It previews in a stuttering fashion at:

    495x371x31, 5.5fps.

    Normal Video behaves much better.

I have tried changing the project properties to match the source resolution and running DRAM to 1024 and altering preview Qualities with little success. The only other idea I had was “rendering” down the resolution…. but that could take a while if a number of clips are involved.

I am also looking into Corel Video Studio Pro X3 and Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate. They all look great on the preview side of things, but limited in other ways. My feeling is that SV is the more powerful route to go, but this Preview problem is pretty frustrating. Perhaps I should add a dedicated graphics card to my PC???

    Any thought hugely appreciated,

    Ed

Have you tried RAM previews? Shift-B to generate RAM preview of your loop selection.

    Hi Steve,

    This is good advice.

I have just found one of the many differences tween SV Pro and Movie Studio Plat. With the former I can take Dynamic RAM up to my max RAM(8GB) while SV MSP restricts you to 1GB and is 32bit only. However when I did the Shift-B on the selected region which I guess is doing a prerender it still takes a few minutes to do this, and my CPU and RAM usage is not increasing much…. about 40% each. I would have thought that once I had allocated 5GB SV Pro it would have just immediately previewed out of this with very little time delay. For your information, once prerendered, the preview runs like a charm.

I have trials of both SV Pro 64bit and SV MSP 32bit.

Really appreciate your help…. I do like the feel of SV though… I could grow into it.

    Cheers,

    Ed
