Trying to decide whether to spend the time installing an eSATA extender cable or just plug in a FW800 into my 2007 Mac Pro.

It’s a 2-drive external RAID 1 that will be used for MOV files recorded from HDV in Adobe OnLocation.

Any major difference in the two interfaces for this kind of use?

eSATA is faster, but HDV is a very low bandwidth codec, so you wont see performance difference between eSATA and FW800 for your application. FW800 40MB/sec is more than fast enough for HDV

What Bob said + FW is hot plug-able so you don’t have to shut down between drive swaps.
