eSATA CARD for MacBook Pro
Posted by Seawild on February 24, 2009 at 6:35 pmHowdy Folks,
Can anyone recommend a eSATA PCI Card for a Intel 2.4 MacBook Pro? It looks like there are a few to choose from.. Some are over a 100.00 (Sonnet) some are around 40.00
I just need one port/connector.
thx,

February 24, 2009 at 7:10 pmI’m using the LaCie. No problems at all. Two ports.
CalDigit have a 3Ghz card with only one port (The Lacie is 1.5Ghz).
I don’t know if this will make the conexion faster.

I found it for 80 bucks.. not too bad.

February 25, 2009 at 7:32 pmYou can also find one for $30 or $300. There are 3 chips commonly used for the cards and all of them act different. The JMicron cheap chip cards
can boot a MBP, but are limited in speed. The $300 Sonnet tempo with the Marvell chip can’t boot, but it’s port-multplied.I think all but the expensive Sonnet are limited to around 130MBS (and the PM versions are maxed out at 225.
Edhere’s a bit of info on that one:

Looking into the future, USB 3 is going to be pretty exciting stuff. Hopefully those will be made PCI/34 too.
