error? : The file could not be created
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on May 6, 2017 at 8:48 pmHi folks,
For some odd reasons, very frequently, when I attempt to Save or Save As my project (1 hour or so video) I receive the SVP12 error:
An error occurred while saving the project file ________ (name of file here)
file could not be createdIf I continue to attempt saving… eventually (most of the time) it will save.
Very annoying. Does anyone have a clue as to what could be the problem?
Cheers!

May 13, 2017 at 6:52 pmIs it by any chance an external or network drive? If the answer is yes, there may be some connectivity problems.
If it’s internal, some AV might interfere with file creations, but not sure.
What antivirus do you use, if any?
Or some file-syncing stuff, which monitors that folder?Best regards

May 13, 2017 at 9:21 pmThanks.
No, just using a regular internal drive. No problems to report with the multitude of other software I use. Using McAfee . Will try turning it off just in case.
No other file-syncing stuff that I can think of.Gilles

May 13, 2017 at 11:13 pmI used to have all sorts of similar issues using McAfee, Avast, Norton’s etc and miscellaneous firewall products, plus they bogged down my system. I used to get bombarded with alerts. I have been using Microsoft Security Essentials/Windows Defender and Windows firewall for about 3 years now and have to say I am very pleased with the performance and security to date.
You can try disabling McAfee temporarily to see if that fixes the file saving issue. I even get such issues on Microsoft, but only in 1 app (outlook) which has a daily backup on closing. I get a ‘file is in use’ warning, and if I leave it, say, 10 seconds and try again, it does save.

May 16, 2017 at 2:20 pmHi Nigel and László ,
I’m happy to report that McAfee was/is the culprit ☺Turning it off circumvents the error which eases my mind.
Thanks so much to you both for the direction/tip.

May 17, 2017 at 11:55 amJust don’t forget to re-enable it if you use that machine for reading emails or regularly downloading stuff, what with the WannaCrypt virus doing the rounds.
