  • Error when I open project files

    Hmm,

I’m getting a bit worried. I left for lunch today and when I came back I tried to open some project files that I’ve been working on for the past 2 months and now all of a sudden I’m getting this message :

After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! (itemH cannot be NULL)

    ( 5027 :: 87 )

Now I can’t open any of the projects. The error keeps popping up and I have to Alt+Ctrl+Del to close my program.

I know I have a licence to a trial of a codec that just expired, but I highly doubt it would block after effects from opening up projects files…

Anybody know what the problem is?

Have you tried opening AE with Caps Lock on?
Can you open any other projects?
Can you launch AE without opening a project?
What do the projects have in common?
Can you remove the codec from your system? ( I haven’t had to do that in years, so please don’t ask me how)
When do the projects crash? While AE is loading? If so, what is the last thing to load before crashing?

    Actually I’ve found a work around…

if I open up a new project file and import the corrupted ones into it, they work fine.

But to answer your questions, it crashes when the project is loading, I can’t quite seem to see what element is loading when it crashes, so I can’t say.

And I have no idea how to remove codecs either, so I’m not going to attempt it.

Hmm … now that you mention it, we’ve seen that workaround. Sorry I didn’t recommend it before.

Trust me, I really appreciate your help 🙂

I just happened to stumble upon the work around
