I’ve been working on a project in After Effects CS5.5 for several weeks and am suddenly getting the error: The layer exceeds maximum size.

I have not found any info about this error on the AE help manuel or COW forums.

The project also crashes about every other hour with the Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGABRT)

    Comp Settings:
    1280×720
    Square Pixels
    29.97 fps

    Any thoughts?

Well I figured it out 🙂

Had the CC RepeTile effect expanding a layer to 20,000, which is the max for that effect. When the amount was lessened the error stopped happening.

Hopefully, this will as least help someone else!

Yes, you did figure it out, and a big help to me it was.

Big help to me as well. Was getting that error AFTER each render, but this morning was getting it prior to each frame being rendered. Big help, thanks!

I had the same problem but i was on 15000 pixels on RepeTile. Though it seems that in CC 2014 the limit is 15K (or somewhere beneath it). I reduced it to 12000 and renders fine.

Thank you much for the tip.
