  • Error message when trying to open a sequence in FCP

Posted by Southeastvideo on February 28, 2007 at 12:06 am

I was working within my sequence when a red screen appeared in the viewer saying “Display Unavailable – Close and reopen window to restore”. I followed the instructions and now when I try and open my sequence it start to prepare for viewing and an error message come up and says….”Operation not allowed”… I click okay and then it says…..”Error: Out of Memory”. I really need to be able to open this sequence, can any one help? I’ve tried trashing prefs, no luck.

Try getting rid of your render files for that project if you can afford to. Or, use the Render Manager to delete the render files for just that sequence.

If deleting renders doesn’t help, you should restore an autosaved version of the project. You can do this manually by browsing to the autosave folder and clicking on the newest version so that it opens FCP using this project – useful if your corrupted project causes FCP to crash.

I always find this solves the problem – in fact it’s the reason why autosaves are so crucial… They take no time to do, and only cost you a few mins work.

Thank you to the cow community…….. Shortly after posting this problem I ran across a rather unusual way to fix this. Atleast it worked this time. I opened up a different project and went to system settings and tabed to “memory & cache” The top bar said the memory was at 100% at 1320mps. I scrolled down to 38% of that, I forget what the file size was then…went back to the project..saved and quit. Then re-opened the same project went back to “memory & cashe” and set it back to 100% however the file size incresed to 1323mps. I again went back to the project saved and closed it allowing FCP to still be active. At that point I opend the project in question with the bad sequence. Clicked twice on the sequence and procedeed to put my head down. To my amazement I could hear the G-Raid going through the motions and low and behold I looked up and all was right with this project….again thanks to the cow community.
