Error message in rendering

What format is this 20 minute video you are rendering,

And what format and codec are you selecting when rendering.

And how long into the rendering process did this error
popped up.

I am have imported HD .mod files (I changed the file extension to .mpg and rendered the video without and issues numerous times before) and there are some .mpeg video files in there too (I used a few different cameras for multi-angles).

I am rendering in PAL DV Widescreen AVI (Audio: 48,000 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo, PCM Uncompressed.
Video: 25 fps, 720×576, Lower field first.)

The thing is, I have selected particular parts of the video and rendered that region only to see if it’s a particular portion of the 20 minute video giving problems. Sometimes it renders 100%, sometimes 2%, sometimes 13%, there are other random % times it fails, but those are the most common.

I’m sorry to say I can’t help you with your problem as I have the exact same problem myself. I’ve been working on finding a way to solve it for 2 days now. Have you found a way to solve it yet??? I get other error messages too though such as: Unknown error, not enough memory etc etc. The last one is bull ’cause I just deleted half of what’s on my computer (NOT the material used in the video I might add) and that can’t possibly be the problem.
I have also tried rendering just parts of it and the same thing happens to me as you’re describing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s really annoying as this is my best video yet, by far and I worked on it for almost 2 weeks. Now it’s all been just a big waste of time as it’s completely useless sitting on a timeline in Sony Vegas.

I’m using Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9 btw.

Never had this problem before and I’ve made a whole bunch of videos with it. I would’ve listed up for you what I’ve tried so far, but I’ve tried so many things I can’t even remember them all.

Please let me know if you do find a way to solve this problem.

I am sorry to hear that Anne, I know just how much frustration you have! I too spend all of my holidays (2 weeks flat) doing this video and it’s just gone to waste. I’ve tried everything you described too, to no avail.

One question, whilst you were rendering the video earlier in the time you were making it, did it render perfectly fine? Because mine did, then at some point it started getting errors. Also, if you open a different window and go back into Vegas, does it not respond for about one minute before Vegas finally is usable again? I noticed that started happening around the same time error messages came up.

Options – Prefs – General – Close media files when not the active application.
If this option is enabled, disable it and vice-versa.

I am so sorry I didn’t post this reply earlier. I went to the sony vegas website and read just about every Q&A on that site. Finally I found a tip that was useful. I wish I could just link you to it, but I’ll try to explain. (I’m from Norway so it’s not as easy)
The mistake was quite simple actually. Too much stuff in my project. So, their tip was this: First, render just a small part. Even if it’s just a minute. Then, once you’ve done that click the “clear all unused media” button and render the next part. After that, click the “clear all unused media” button again. Continue this until you have all parts of your project rendered. Then clear everything and import what you have rendered. It takes some extra time and of course you’ll have to put the music back in there and all that (if you have that in your project) but in the end it’s worth it. It worked for me. I really hope this helps. If not, I’d recommend the website. I was completely shocked to discover how many pages of Q&A there were..

Let me know if it works! Just remember to clear all the unused media between rendering. Very important!
