error message capturing HD CAM
I am using the Sony J-H3 deck and having trouble capturing. I am getting this odd message that pops up and says: “Tape Trouble. Check VTR. Do not attempt to eject tape or use transport without checking VTR first.”
I am doing a CAPTURE NOW because i want to capture all the footage and then make subclips. But FCP is only referencing some of the footage on certain tapes. I looked on the “capture scratch” folder and all 50 mins of the footage is there but in FCP it says there is only 20 mins of footage. I tried to import the quicktime files in to the project but still it is only referencing the same 20 mins of footage…
The deck does make strange sounds… it’s sounds like the tape is rewinding of fast-fowarding every 10 minutes or so – only for a second it speeds up or something. I cleaned the deck with a head cleaner but it didn’t help.
Any idea what i should do??

That is the sound the deck makes when the automatic head cleaner kicks in – it is daunting but normal; panic not.
I only use my JH3 on FCP with SD DV capture via RS422 Aja IO and it works OK – sorry can’t help with that one.

Call or email AJA and tell them your problem. They will send you a patch to get rid of that warning.
