Error Message
Posted by Ken White on April 27, 2009 at 2:17 pmI tried to open an old project and got the following message. File does not contain a valid Avid domain header. What does it mean and how do I fix it?
I am using Avid Xpress Pro 5.8 on a PC with Windows XP SP3.
Thanks,

April 27, 2009 at 6:11 pmwas the project folder renamed, by chance?
It’ll get all fussy if the folders are dinked with in any way. It’s all one tree.

April 27, 2009 at 8:24 pmHave you tried creating a new project, then importing the bins from the old project? That’s a pretty ominous sounding error.

April 27, 2009 at 8:31 pmYep, brand new project with the default name “New Project”. Still couldn’t open them. Even tried changing the name of one of the bins and it still wouldn’t open. Thanks,
Ken

April 29, 2009 at 3:18 pmIf you hop into your OMFI folder(s) and slowly scroll through, I bet you will find a currupt file… one with a (+) in the file name. Delete it and see if that gets you going. Outside of that, maybe go sifting through your attic for a date or time you could open it before the problem?

April 29, 2009 at 3:28 pmGood idea. Hadn’t thought to check the OMFI, or try to open an earlier version of the attic. Thanks!

May 4, 2009 at 5:07 pmWhere would the plus sign be? In front of the file format icon or in front of the file name? Thanks,
Ken

May 4, 2009 at 5:16 pmIn front of the filename. For example, if your media file is normally called:
V01.488A3D9F_488A3D488A3D9F.omf
It would looking something like:
+V01.488A3D9F_488A3D488A3D9F.omf

What does an underline mean, as in
_V01.488A3D9F_488A3D488A3D9F.omf?
Thanks,
Ken
