Error decompressing – now AME and Premiere freeze
I’ve always had a problem with codecs. But I’m almost to my ends with trying to import this MPEG2 clip:
I’m running CS6 and have purchased QuickTime Pro 7.6.6

The guy who gave it to me compressed it from a 300GB AVI to this file I have now, but I can’t import it! Please help!

Don’t ever install codecs, unless absolute needed.
When installing Premiere it comes with all the codec you need.
There are a lot of Roxio codec on your machine.
I am not sure but I think the problem lies in the bitrate which is 100 mbps. That is very high.———————————————–

As far as I can tell, Premiere doesn’t support rendering to MPEG-2 at resolutions higher then 720×608 except HDV in a quicktime.
That doesn’t mean it can’t import them, but this could be why your files won’t play.
Also, this MPEG-2 video is in an mp4 container. I don’t think there’s anything technically wrong with that, but it’s certainly an odd choice by whoever encoded it.

Yea I accidently renamed to MP4 when trying to fix it, it is originally a MPG file extension.

After many unsuccessful attempts, Xvid4PSP finally converted it to a working MP4 file.
